POSITION SUMMARY

We are seeking an experienced, hands-on and detail-oriented Controller to join our dynamic team. The Controller will be responsible for overseeing all financial and accounting activities for at least nine (9) companies/divisions under our holding group. This role requires a strategic thinker with strong analytical skills and a deep understanding of financial management, preferably within the insurance industry. The ideal candidate will ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial reporting, develop and implement financial policies, and provide insightful analysis to support business decisions. The position will be reporting to the Chief Financial Officer and will drive the development of internal control policies, procedures, and financial planning as needed.

 

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversee the preparation and analysis of financial statements, ensuring compliance with GAAP and regulatory requirements.
  • Manage the month-end and year-end closing processes.
  • Develop and implement financial policies, procedures, and internal controls.
  • Monitor and analyze financial performance, providing insights and recommendations to senior management.
  • Coordinate and manage the annual budgeting and forecasting processes.
  • Ensure timely and accurate filing of all financial reports and tax returns.
  • Build, supervise and mentor the accounting team, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture.
  • Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, inventory, and commissions.
  • Assist with the implementation and optimization of an ERP system.
  • Oversee the preparation and filing of sales tax returns, ensuring compliance with state and local tax regulations.
  • Stay updated on industry trends and regulatory changes affecting the insurance sector.

REQUIRED SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to set priorities to meet deadlines and effectively communicate financial concepts and data
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Goal oriented and hands-on team player
  • Ability to adapt and learn new accounting and/or tax preparation software.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; Certified Public Accountant or Certified Management Accountant certification required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in a senior accounting or financial management role, experience within the insurance industry a plus
  • Proficiency with accounting software and Microsoft Office Suites. QuickBooks and/or Microsoft Dynamics experience a plus
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting requirements.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Strong leadership and team management abilities.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
  • High level of integrity and attention to detail.
  • Able to collaborate with varying levels of management, including senior executives

Schedule: Monday – Friday

 

Compensation package:

Base Pay: $135,000.00 – $155,000.00 per year

Incentive/Bonus: Eligible for annual company bonus/incentive program
